Summer clerk, Auckland - University of Auckland
“As an arts student, I wasn’t sure whether I would fit into a commercial law environment. I have since discovered I enjoy working in transactional teams.”
I joined CT as a winter clerk, worked part-time for Zeren, Chapman Tripp’s technology and innovation business, followed by summer clerking n the corporate and finance teams. I thrive on problem-solving and enjoyed worked closely with one of the restructuring and insolvency partners in the finance team - an area that sits closely to litigation.
As a third-year student the interview process seemed daunting at first, but Chapman Tripp’s process wasn’t scary at all! Before I went into the interview there were two juniors who came and spoke to me, and made me feel at ease. And, when I joined as a winter clerk, those people remembered me. It was things like this that reinforced the friendly atmosphere at CT.
“I would describe the culture at Chapman Tripp as very supportive. There has never been a time where I have felt alone, or that people were too busy to explain things to me.”
I’ve always had people willing to sit down and explain things– sometimes in a lot of detail! I love it though because you get to learn so much about a deal, for example, even if your involvement is minor. My supervisors talked me through each stage of the deal process from start to finish which was really helpful.
