Mikaila Claughton loves fried chicken and waffles, pugs, wakeboarding and her headphones are regularly blasting Taylor Swift’s latest hit.

The University of Canterbury student particularly enjoyed the variety of opportunities that were presented to her during her time as a summer clerk at Chapman Tripp.

She clerked in the Corporate and Litigation teams in the Christchurch office.

Mikaila’s advice to anyone looking to apply to be a clerk at Chapman Tripp: “Understand what your positive qualities are and let them shine through.”

While she was working she found the partners very approachable and keen to help with anything, “They really take the time to explain concepts and background issues.”

“I have really enjoyed the opportunity to learn practical skills from such a great group of people. Everyone is keen to offer little pearls of wisdom that they have learned along the way. Going along to a coroner’s inquest was a highlight for me – it was such a unique experience.”

When talking about her time at Chapman Tripp she said, “There are so many opportunities to get involved in both the community and the culture at CT. Highlights so far have been taking part in a fun-run and helping to organise the office Christmas party. There is always something fun to do!”

“Everyone respects the people around them and understands the challenges that others face.

“It’s a safe learning environment where you can make use of the experiences of those around you.”
